8.23 - Luke 14:25-35 // One Identity

What defines you?

We all carry plenty of labels. Parent. Spouse. Professional. Successful. Struggling. Republican. Democrat. Addict. Athlete. But Jesus calls His disciples to something deeper and more costly: one identity that comes before every other identity.

In Luke 14, Jesus turns to the crowds following Him and makes the cost of discipleship unmistakably clear. Following Jesus means choosing Him above family, possessions, personal ambitions, comfort, and even our own lives. His grace is free, but following Him will cost us everything.

Jesus is not trying to talk us out of following Him. He is inviting us to count the cost and decide that He is worth it.

A few anchors:
• Being in the crowd does not make you a Christ follower.
• Jesus must come before family, desires, possessions, and self.
• Following Jesus means counting the cost before making the commitment.
• A disciple has one defining identity: I am a Christ follower.
