Following Jesus means more than believing the right things. It means loving people the way Jesus loves us.

In John 15:12-15, Jesus gives one of His clearest commands: "Love one another as I have loved you." He doesn't simply invite us to be friendly. He calls us to sacrificial friendship that reflects His own love. Real disciples don't settle for shallow relationships. They intentionally build friendships that encourage, strengthen, and point one another toward Christ.

In week five of FOLLOW, Pastor Bryan explores the third measure of discipleship: A Friend Who Loves Others. As we grow in Christ, our friendships should become deeper, more intentional, and more centered on the gospel.

A few anchors:

  • Jesus sets the standard by loving us first.
  • Real friendship requires sacrifice, not convenience.
  • Following Jesus means laying down our preferences for others.
  • Friendship with Jesus shapes how we love His people.
  • Healthy discipleship happens in authentic Christian community, not in isolation.

Jesus didn't command us to admire one another from a distance. He commanded us to love one another. As we grow as disciples, we become the kind of friends who encourage, serve, forgive, and faithfully walk alongside others.
